Belsay Hall

With the weather improving and the summer holidays fast approaching its no doubt that getting out to see the country side is an excellent idea and a perfect place for that is Belsay Hall.

Located in beautiful northumberland Belsay was originally owned by the Middleton family and then passed into statecare in 1980. The grounds is composed of a mansion, medieval castle and impressive garden that links the two together and provides a magnificent setting for them both. It is a great place to spend some time or go for a walk on a sunny day.

The castle is a splendid example of a pele tower built by the Middleton family in the 14th century. It was built as both a statement of the families wealth and because of the unrest between Scotland and England at the time. The castle and picturesque quarry gardens which are filled with a wide range of exotic plants makes for a stunning walk and a fantastic place to go and explore as part of your adventure.

The mansion is a grecian inspired building that was the family home of the Middleton until it was handed over, it has been left simple for you to admire the craftsmanship and care that went into the construction something you can absolutely see while you visit.

With plenty of events on there is something for everyone to get involved with over the summer from an outdoor stage to the ‘hands on history’ that the whole family can well get their hands on. Between the events, grounds, castle and cafe it will be easy to spend the whole day at this delightful location.
