The BALTIC

The Baltic is an contemporary art centre just on the other side of the River Tyne next to the Millennium Bridge. It was re-opened to the public after previously being a Four Mill in 2002 after ten years in the planning.

For those who enjoy their art it is a worthy place to visit even just for its interesting span of contemporary art and has had exhibitions from Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Martin Boyce. It was the venue for the Turner Prize in 2011 from the 21st October 2011 to the 8th January 2012. This would be the first time it’s been held outside out of either London or Liverpool. The prize was visited by 149,000 people in the space of time it was there which is now the most times the prize has been visited in its 25 years.

The Baltic is free entry for all so you don’t have to spend anything to get in. Also situated inside the Baltic is it’s gift shop and its own rooftop restaurant called “Six” which offers a beautiful view from the very top of the Baltic as well as lunch and dinner. There is also a kitchen on the bottom floor for freshly made snacks and hot and cold lunches.

The Baltic is something a bit different and a bit unique but whether you are an art lover or not it’s still an worthwhile place to visit for both young and old.
