The Ultimate Guide to Christmas Shopping in Newcastle

Newcastle is the perfect city for a spot of Christmas shopping! Whether you are planning a fun day trip or a weekend away, this bustling city offers lots of options for festive fun.

Christmas in Newcastle

One of the best places for Christmas shopping in the city is undoubtedly the Metrocentre, which has lots of popular high street shops full of perfect gifts for all the family. The Metrocentre is hosting a free Christmas Grotto that is running throughout December, as well as the ever-popular Metrognomes Christmas Panto, which runs from the 23rd December to the 6th January.

Another great festive spot in Newcastle is the Christmas market at the Grainger Market, situated at the heart of the city centre. There is nothing better than wrapping your cold hands around a warm mug of mulled wine and wandering around the stalls, and this year the Christmas market promises to be better than ever!

Grainger Market, the oldest market in Newcastle, has a wonderful selection of independent shops and stalls, selling everything Christmassy from tinsel to calendars. You can also find arts and crafts, cheese, wine and lots of vintage items. The market runs Monday to Saturday, with extra openings on Sundays throughout December and extended opening hours for the special Christmas market from the 11th to the 17th December.

A Place to Relax

Of course, a festive weekend trip wouldn’t be complete without a beautiful place to relax in after a hard day Christmas shopping, and Hedgefield House is the perfect place. A breath-taking Georgian Mansion House surrounded by stunning gardens, Hedgefield House is perfectly situated within four miles of Newcastle city centre. You will be treated to a delicious continental breakfast and can also enjoy the on-site gym and sauna room: a perfect way to unwind after browsing all the Christmas markets and festive treats that Newcastle has to offer!
