Wallington Hall, Cambo, Northumberland

Although its not exactly on the doorstep of Hedgefield House, (just outside Morpeth) we highly recommend a visit.

Wallington Hall is situated on a beautiful estate in the heart of Northumberland and was a much loved home of the unconventional Trevelyan family, where in in times gone by politics and play came together.

This is an impressive, yet friendly house which gives you the visitor the opportunity to explore the history of Northumberland. Marvel at the pre-Raphaelite paintings placed around the remarkable Central Hall, or be inspired by the beautiful antique furniture, family paintings and other treasured collections the family accumulated over hundreds of years.

The Trevelyan family were an outdoors loving family and loved being close to nature, so understandably the house is surrounded by an landscape of lawns, lakes, woodland and farmland, just waiting to be explored.

The estate also houses a beautiful walled garden, hidden deep in the woods, which a haven of tranquillity in all seasons.

Don’t miss Lady Wilson’s Cabinet of Curiosities and the collection of dolls houses is a must see but if its a pleasant day why not stretch your legs with a walk through the estate or have a picnic in the grassy courtyard whilst the children let off steam in the adventure playground.

It is well worth the short journey from Hedgefield House if you’re looking to fill in the day and take in some local history at the same time.
